Defying Height, Conquering Medals - The Inspiring Journey of a Para-Sports Champion
In a remarkable tale of determination and resilience, Rongali Ravi, a 28-year-old athlete from Chirikivanipalem in Visakhapatnam, has emerged as a shining example in the world of para-sports. Despite facing numerous challenges due to his short stature, standing at just 125 cm, Ravi has overcome all odds to become a national and international medalist, inspiring countless individuals along the way. Born into a family of agricultural laborers, Ravi's passion for sports has been unwavering since his childhood. In 2014, he found his true calling in para-sports and has never looked back since. Despite facing comments and harassment, Ravi participated in various competitions, showcasing his potential and securing medals. In 2018, Ravi's life took a significant turn when he won a gold medal in shot put at the National Games. Encouraged by his elders, he shifted his focus entirely to athletics. With limited financial support, Ravi sold his family's half-acre farm to fund his participation in international events, refusing to let his dreams be hindered by adversity. Ravi's dedication and hard work caught the attention of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), which provided him with support and training under esteemed athletics coach Rahul Balakrishna. In 2022, he won two international silver medals in shot put and javelin throw, representing India in Portugal. Looking ahead, Ravi aims to participate in the Asian Games and ultimately make India proud with his success in the 2024 Olympics. His unwavering determination continues to inspire aspiring athletes nationwide, as he trains under the guidance of experienced coaches and the support of various sports associations.
