Asia’s cleanest village
Also known as 'God's Own Garden’, the Mawlynnong Village in Cherrapunji is acclaimed as Asia’s cleanest village. The community there has took this step towards promoting tourism. The village has beautiful waterfalls, living root bridges and a balancing rock. The village has 100 percent literacy rate and every villager can speak fluent English.
Magnetic hill
This is a must experience thing on your way to Leh. The hill lies at a height of about 11,000 feet above the sea level. This hill is said to have optical power that can pull your vehicle even if the ignition is off. But in reality, it’s just an optical illusion that is created by the gravity hill.
Land of Snakes
This is a village named Shetpal in Maharashtra wherein you will find snakes roaming freely in the village. Snakes here are worshipped. A frightening custom of this village is that every household has a place in their ceiling rafters for the snakes to rest. Unexpectedly, not even a single case of snake bite is reported in the village.
Hanging Pillar
Amongst the seventy pillars of the Lepakshi temple of Andhra Pradesh, there is this one pillar which hangs without any support. Visitors pass objects from below the pillar to testify the claim. Natives there believe that passing objects from below the pillar brings prosperity.
Red Rain
Idukki in Kerala is classified as red region as this region witnesses red rainfall. The first case of this was recorded in 1818. Since then the place witnesses red rainfall frequently. Scientists have not yet been able to find the exact reason for the red color and this this remains an unresolved mystery. Hindu relics say that red rain is the anger of the Gods to punish the sinners when an innocent is killed.
Levitating stone
Hazrat Qamar Ali Darvesh shrine that lies at Shivapur in Pune, Maharashtra has a magical story associated to it. The shrine now was a gymnasium 800 years ago. The story is as follows. Wrestlers there once taunted a Sufi saint Qamar Ali. The saint casted spell on the rocks used there which were used for body building. The 70 kg huge rocks can only be lifted with 11 finger tips touching it and chanting his name aloud. This magic still is experienced by many people who levitate the stone by chanting his name.
Mass bird suicide
Sounds weird. But this is one of the world’s unsolved mysteries. The village of Jatinga amongst the Borail Hills of Assam every monsoon witnesses a weird phenomenon. Somewhere between the months of September and October, hundreds of migratory birds fly speedily towards trees and buildings, crashing themselves until death. No one can trace the actual reason for this weird occurrence.
