India Secures Spot in WTC Final After Dramatic New Zealand Win Ends Lanka’s Hopes
In a dramatic turn of events, Sri Lanka's defeat in the first Test against New Zealand in the ongoing two-match series has sealed the fate of the finalists for the 2023 World Test Championship. While the fourth India-Australia Test match ended in a draw, with the hosts winning the series 2-1. The World Test Championship, which was launched in 2019, aims to bring greater context and meaning to Test cricket by providing a structure for a championship competition. For India, it will be a second consecutive qualification in the summit clash. Australia, who are currently ranked first in the championship, had already secured their place in the final by winning the series against South Africa. India, who are ranked second, to not be dependent on Sri Lanka for qualifying in the final, they had to win the series 4-0 or 3-1 but the current holders of the ICC Test mace, New Zealand, have done them a favor. The final match of the championship is set to be played in June 2023 at The Oval in London, England.
