Retired Army Officer Creates Oasis Luxury Camps in Jaisalmer to Offer Unique Desert Experience
Colonel Mahendra Mohan Prakash Singh, a retired army officer, has embarked on a new venture to help tourists experience the enchanting magic of Jaisalmer's desert. His Oasis India Camps offer a unique blend of luxury and adventure, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of the region. After spending 24 years in the Army, Colonel Mahendra Mohan Prakash Singh was inspired by his love for the outdoors and his experience in the cavalry unit, where training took place in the desert. This led him to establish the Oasis India Camps, situated in Jaisalmer. With an initial vision of two camps, Colonel Mahendra has expanded his endeavor to encompass a total of 143 camps scattered across the desert. These camps provide guests with a luxurious and traditional stay, allowing them to unwind under the starlit sky amidst the dunes. The camping experience offers a range of activities, including camel rides, safaris, and adventure sports such as parasailing and biking. Guests can also witness locals engage in activities like cooking and pottery, providing a glimpse into the vibrant desert life. Furthermore, the camps organize cultural evenings featuring Rajasthani folk dances, live musical performances, and a buffet dinner filled with traditional Rajasthani cuisine. Guests can also explore the surrounding wildlife and visit the border posts of Longewala, which played a significant role in the 1971 war between India and Pakistan. Colonel Mahendra's Oasis India Camps have become a popular attraction, especially during the Jaisalmer Desert Festival, a three-day extravaganza showcasing the cultural richness of the region through various events and activities. With his passion for the outdoors and a desire to share his experiences, Colonel Mahendra has successfully created a haven for travelers seeking a luxurious and adventurous encounter with Jaisalmer's enchanting desert.
