From Pune to IIT Glory: Arohi Deshpande Tops JEE Advanced Among Girls
For lakhs of students across India, cracking the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced is a dream. For Pune’s Arohi Deshpande, it became a journey of discipline, emotional strength and relentless hard work that eventually led her to become the topper among female candidates in JEE Advanced 2026.Securing an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 77 with 280 marks out of 360, Arohi has emerged as one of the brightest young minds in the country. Her achievement has drawn attention not only because of her stellar rank but also because of the inspiring story behind it, a story of family sacrifice and staying focused despite pressure. The 17-year-old now plans to pursue B.Tech in Computer Science at IIT Bombay, one of India’s most prestigious engineering institutions.“JEE Is an Emotional Journey”Unlike many toppers who speak only about strategy and study schedules, Arohi openly described the emotional challenges of preparing for one of India’s toughest exams. Speaking to The Indian Express, she said that JEE is not just about studying; it's also a mental and emotional journey. She admitted that there were moments of self-doubt, especially when she scored poorly in practice tests. But instead of letting failures discourage her, she treated them as opportunities to learn and improve.Behind Arohi’s success lies a remarkable story of family support. Originally from Hyderabad, the Deshpande family had settled in Pune. But after Class 8, they took a life-changing decision, moving to Kota, Rajasthan, India’s biggest coaching hub, so Arohi could prepare for JEE Advanced at ALLEN Career Institute. What makes the story even more touching is that the entire family relocated with her. Her father, Prasad Deshpande, an IT professional, and her mother, Amita Deshpande, an environmental engineer, continued working remotely while supporting their daughter’s dream. While stating that having family with her made her feel at home, she expressed admiration for students who prepare alone in Kota for years, admitting that she found the thought emotionally difficult. No Pressure, Only PassionArohi’s father revealed that the family never pressured her to secure a particular rank. According to him, the biggest reason behind her success was that she genuinely enjoyed studying. Since learning never felt like a burden to her, she was able to remain consistent and disciplined throughout the preparation process.Arohi maintained a strict study timetable, focused heavily on conceptual clarity and regularly analysed mistakes after mock tests. Interestingly, she never prepared separately for JEE Main because her focus was always on cracking JEE Advanced.Beyond academics, Arohi enjoys painting, reading and listening to music, hobbies that helped her stay balanced during the demanding preparation phase. As the Deshpande family now settles back in Hyderabad after years in Kota, Arohi’s achievement has become an inspiration for students across the country.
