Wings India 2024, the largest civil aviation exhibition in Asia, commenced with a spectacular start at the Begumpet airport in Hyderabad. The event witnessed an array of exciting displays, industry collaborations, and significant announcements. Thrilling Aerial Displays and Precision Manoeuvres The inaugural day of the expo was filled with breathtaking aerial displays that captivated aviation enthusiasts and business professionals alike. The Sarang helicopter team from the Indian Air Force showcased their precision manoeuvres, leaving the audience in awe. The Mark Jefferies aerobatic team from the UK, featuring four airplanes, took center stage with their extraordinary performances in the skies. Aircraft Showcase and New Member of the Boeing Family Visitors were treated to an extensive display of 25 aircraft, including India's first-ever Airbus A350 with its latest livery. The highlight of the exhibit was Boeing's B 777-9, the newest and most fuel-efficient member of the Boeing wide-body aircraft family. With a 20% increase in fuel efficiency compared to the B777-300ER and 10% more efficient than the A350, the B 777-9 drew significant attention from the attendees. Aviation Deals and Collaborations The event also witnessed several significant announcements and collaborations within the aviation industry. Akasa Air, India's youngest low-cost airline, made headlines by placing an additional order for 150 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. This marked a significant milestone, as it became the first Indian airline to order over 200 aircraft within just 17 months of operation. Addressing the industry's need for skilled engineers, GMR Aero Technic launched the GMR Aviation School in collaboration with Airbus. The school will offer integrated 4-year licensed aircraft maintenance engineering programs, approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This initiative aims to bridge the shortage of skilled engineers in the industry. Technological Advancements and Operational Efficiency GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish an industry consortium within the aviation ecosystem, focusing on leveraging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain. The aim is to enhance operational efficiency and elevate the overall customer experience. Public Days While the first two days of the exhibition were reserved for business visitors, the remaining days, January 20 and 21, were open to the public.
