Pune Constructs New Roads Made Of Plastic Waste
We've been witnessing several cities take up road construction by plastic waste to minimise damage to nature. Pune is taking the initiative ahead with its new road plan.Pune Municipal Corporation plans to construct a 25km length of roads in the city by using the mixture of plastic waste. Seeing the benefits of road resurfacing using plastic waste, the civic body plans to construct at least 25km long road using this technology. Kunal Kumar The Pune Municipal Commissioner said that the project of using a mixture of plastic waste for road surfacing has already been started in areas like Navi Peth, Viman Nagar and Koregaon Park. As the plastic waste of the city is a big headache for the municipality, this technology will not only reduce their burden but also reduce the problem of plastic trash in the city. The plastic trash collected by rag pickers or PMC staff will be utilised for mixture in the road material. Already, the trials are successful, said Kumar. The company would collect or purchase the plastic waste from the city and process it at Yerawada without incurring any cost to the civic body.
