Unsung Indian heroes
Many great freedom fighters shed their blood for our country’s freedom. We have Jayanti’s to celebrate their martyrdom. But there are many such people who have shed and are shedding their sweat for the betterment of the people and the society, working their life for the progress of the nation. Some of them get their work acknowledged while others are doing their noble work silently. It is our job to appreciate the efforts of these people and make them the face of our nation’s development! The article is an effort for the same letting readers know about some of these unsung heroes. Dr. Abhay and Dr. Rani Bang This super-couple are doing all in their might to work for the betterment of one of the most under developed tribal communities of central India. Abhay Bang and Rani Bang both are doctors by profession. They completed their MBBS from Government Medical College, Nagpur, Maharashtra in 1972. Abhay Bang did his MD in Medicine while Rani Bang did her MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology both securing first positions in the University in their fields. They later did their Masters in public health from Johns Hopkins University, America in 1984. They are known for lots of philanthropy like social work, Community Health and Research with the people, de-addiction, reduction of infant mortality rate and many more! Unlike most of the doctors who work in big hospitals and earn hefty pays, they decided to use their education for the service of mankind without any expectations in return! Beena Rao Beena Rao is a lecturer at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology and is giving free education to over 5000 slum children from Surat in Gujarat. Getting inspiration from her father, she started this noble work with 2-3 students and now has expanded it to over 5000. She teaches these children along with 34 other volunteers. The curriculum include basic education along with discipline, yoga, mannerisms and many other self-grooming sessions. Lots of praises to her dedication to her profession! Sudhanshu Biswas Sudhanshu Biswas, now at a ripe age of 99 years is a freedom fighter. He spent his youth in the freedom struggle of the nation and now works for the betterment of children of remote village in their development and education. He has built over 18 non formal schools for the children. He runs Sri Ramakrisha Sevashram (SRKS). His extreme patriotism for the country and love for fellow citizens is heart touching! Shafiq Ur Rehman Khan A brave young man working for gender equality and equal rights in the society is Shafiq Ur Rehman Khan. Right from his teenage, he has stood bravely for education rights for the Dalits and other backward excluded classes. He works for rescuing girls from bride trafficking and had lead marches against female foeticide and gender inequality. He has an organization ‘Empower People’ that works for bringing about social improvement in the society. When we see young people like Shafiq Ur Rehman Khan doing all in their power for the society’s betterment, we can assure that the country’s future is in safe hands! There are many more such unsung heroes who are working selflessly for the society! God bless these souls!
