Indore ranked cleanest city in India
The Swatch Bharat rankings have placed Indore on the top of the list of cleanest cities in India. Bhopal, another city from MP has been ranked second while Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Surat in Gujarat have emerged as the third and fourth cleanest cities. Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu had announced the results. Mysuru which topped the list in 2015 is in the fifth position while Tiruchirapally in Tamil Nadu gets the sixth rank. The seventh position is occupied by New Delhi Municipal Council. As the Mamata Banerjee government did not participate in the Swachh Survekshan, cities in West Bengal had been left out in the rankings. This year's criteria for ranking included 45% marks for cities becoming open defecation free, solid waste management (including sweeping, collection, transportation and processing of garbage), education and capacity building. 25% marks was kept for field inspection and 30% for citizen feedback. Feedback about the sanitation was given by at least 18 lakh citizens across the cities. The survey shows that Jharkhand and Chattisgarh have evolved as the best performing states in Swachh Survekshan while UP and Bihar were cause of some concern.
