Diamond baron constructs lake for his village to end water scarcity
Diamond baron Savji Dholakia, famed for gifting cars as incentives to his employees has embarked on a big mission this time. He has begun the construction of a lake which on the onset of rains, will end water scarcity for over 80,000 people in 20 villages, including his native Dudhala village of Amreli district. Dholakia who helms the 6,000 crore Hari Krishna Diamonds, has seen his parents' and villagers' bitter struggle against water scarcity. He says that though he is 54 year old now, nothing much has changed. His mother still has to tread a long distance to fetch water, while his father prays for good rains. Dholakia decided to put an end to the water crisis by constructing a lake in 100 bigha in the first phase to catch monsoon bounty. Construction is in full swing as tractors are working day and night in this remote village so that the 20 feet-deep lake on 200 bigha land, located between Lathi and Akala villages, is ready before monsoon. Once the lake is constructed, the village will not only have sufficient water, but it will get a forest as well as the earth dug up from the lake construction is dumped on the 200 bigha land, where a huge forest will come up. This forest will have more than 2 lakh trees of various species and it will become home for fauna of all kinds.
