The milestone comes just over six months after NMIA began domestic commercial operations, marking its swift evolution into an international aviation hub.The Abu Dhabi route will operate three times a week, offering passengers a direct connection between Navi Mumbai and the United Arab Emirates while significantly enhancing travel options for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.Connecting India to the WorldThe launch of international operations establishes Navi Mumbai International Airport as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's second international gateway, complementing the city's growing aviation infrastructure.According to Adani Airports Holdings Ltd. (AAHL), the achievement reflects the collaborative efforts of central and state government agencies, aviation regulators, airline partners and airport stakeholders who worked together to make the airport globally operational. As international routes continue to expand, NMIA is expected to play a pivotal role in easing congestion at Mumbai's existing airport while providing travellers with faster and more convenient global connectivity.A Boost for Trade and ExportsThe inaugural international flight wasn't just significant for passengers, it also marked an important milestone for Indian exports. The flight carried NMIA's first international perishable export shipment, officially establishing the airport as a new gateway for transporting high-value, time-sensitive cargo to global markets. This development is expected to strengthen India's export ecosystem by providing businesses with quicker international access, especially for products requiring rapid delivery such as fresh agricultural produce, seafood, flowers and pharmaceuticals. With growing cargo capabilities, NMIA is positioning itself as an important logistics hub alongside its expanding passenger operations.Growing Bigger Every DayNavi Mumbai International Airport is already emerging as one of India's fastest-growing aviation facilities. Currently, the airport handles approximately 150 aircraft movements every day and connects travellers to 46 domestic destinations across the country. Speaking on the occasion, Arun Bansal, Chief Executive Officer of AAHL, described the launch as the beginning of an exciting new phase for the airport.
