Dozens of Kids Get a New Life Thanks to Munger DM
A DM’s kind gesture will go a long way in transforming the lives of twelve kids who because of financial constraints didn’t attend school and were just loitering around or picking rags. Munger DM Navin Kumar was on his way to attend a function when he spotted a seven-year-old boy preoccupied with rag picking. He called out to him, but the boy fled thinking he did something wrong. The DM’s bodyguards managed to catch hold of him and brought him to the DM who enquired about his parent’s whereabouts. When the DM realized that he was an orphan and picked rags to fend for himself, he took the boy to his office. At the DM’s office the boy, Shiva Manjhi, expressed his wish to study. Heeding his wish, he was first given a haircut and offered uniforms and a school bag with books. The district education officer was ordered to get Manjhi admission to a nearby school and take care of his studies. Manjhi is now very happy to attend school and dreams of becoming a police officer. Along with Shiva, eleven more underprivileged children were given assistance and admitted to schools. Speaking to TOI, DM Navin Kumar said that child education is his first priority. The coming generation will not depend on how much economic growth we have made, but on how educated the next generation is, he added.
