Marigolds From Bengaluru Help Dubai Make the World’s Largest Flower Carpet
A whopping 41,000 kg of marigold flowers were airlifted from the Kempagowda International Airport in Bengaluru all the way to Dubai which recently created the world’s largest flower carpet that earned it a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. BIAL which operates the Kempegowda airport reported that the bright orange and yellow flowers were sourced from various parts of Bengaluru and the surrounding districts, including Devanahalli and Chikaballapur. Flowers of Tolerance Dubai hosted the Flowers of Tolerance event in November. It entered the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest natural flower carpet. Modern facilities at the Bengaluru airport kept the flowers fresh for long so that 41.45 tonnes (41,450 kg) of marigold flowers could be airlifted from the Kempegowda International Airport to the Dubai Festival City where the event was held. CoolPort Facility The consignment of flowers was managed by Air India CoolPort that ensured maximum freshness and longer shelf-life of the marigold. CoolPort is India’s first integrated on-airport perishable cargo handling centre. It has a temperature-monitoring facility and cold rooms to handle commodities with different requirements. Due to CoolPort, the airport has been witnessing a huge growth in flower exports. Modern facilities at the Bengaluru airport helped tons of flowers remain fresh so that they could beautify the world’s largest flower carpet in Dubai.
