Maharashtra Government to Brand Khadi Products
The Maharashtra government is taking steps to promote the sale of khadi. It has decided to brand the handwoven fabric. The first such branded khadi goods will be launched in Pune, followed by Nashik and other cities. To promote and encourage the use of khadi, the government is also planning to organise Maha khadi festivals across the state, with the first one to be held in Thane from October 10 to 12.The festival will also be held in Nashik from November 9 to 11. Governor C Vidyasagar Rao and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the event on October 9 at Rajbhavan in Mumbai. A variety of khadi products will be exhibited at the festival which will be held in 20 districts across Maharashtra. Ramesh Surung, Nashik district officer, Maharashtra State Khadi & Village Industries Board (MSKVIB) informed that they are working on promoting, branding and marketing khadi products in the state. He added that the first outlet will soon be opened in Pune and the CM will inaugurate it. There are plans to open at least one khadi outlet in each region of Maharashtra. Apart from khadi, other products manufactured by rural entrepreneurs will also be put on sale through these outlets. Surung said that around 1,500 visitors are expected for the festival in each city. Students from at least three schools in the host city will also be invited each day.
