The Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal had declared in his Independence Day speech this year that he will start free ride for women in both DTC and cluster buses from October 29 which is ‘Bhai Dooj’. True to his words, on Bhai Dooj (October 29), Kejriwal sent his heartiest greetings to all sisters of the Delhi family and commenced the free ride scheme. Pink Ticket To avail of the free ride scheme, women will be given pink tickets. There will be no burden on transporters as the Delhi government will reimburse the transporters based on the pink tickets issued. All women are entitled to travel free of cost on DTC and cluster buses. However, women employees of the Delhi government, local bodies and undertakings who opt for a free ride in DTC and cluster buses will not be entitled to transport allowance. Safety of Women The free of cost bus ride for women will also be available in Noida-NCR, airport and other special services operated by the DTC and cluster scheme operators. Around 13000 marshals have been deployed to ensure the safety of women on board the buses. Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia said that apart from women's safety, it will also increase the role of women in Delhi's economy. Image Source: ThePrint
