Centre Launches IICT: India’s New Creative Institute Inspired by the IITs and IIMs!
The government has announced the establishment of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) in Mumbai. Unveiled at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, IICT is poised to become a National Centre of Excellence dedicated exclusively to the AVGC-XR sector, Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality.Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that IICT aims to emulate the success of premier institutions like IITs and IIMs, serving as a catalyst for innovation and education in the creative domain. "India has the potential to lead globally in media and entertainment," he stated, highlighting the institute's role in nurturing talent and fostering a sustainable ecosystem for growth .Global Tech Titans Join ForcesIICT's ambitious vision is bolstered by strategic collaborations with leading global tech companies. Industry giants such as NVIDIA, Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, Adobe, and Star India have committed to long-term partnerships, aiming to shape IICT into a world-class institution .At the WAVES Summit, Microsoft, Google, and Meta signed memorandums of understanding with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, marking a significant step towards enhancing education, research, and innovation in the AVGC-XR sector. These collaborations are designed to replicate India's successful IT model within the creative and digital media landscape.State-of-the-Art Infrastructure and Nationwide Reach The IICT will commence operations from a state-of-the-art facility at the NFDC Building on Pedder Road, Mumbai. This interim campus will have cutting-edge amenities, including virtual production setups, immersive studios, animation and gaming labs, editing and sound suites, and smart classrooms.In its second phase, IICT will expand to a sprawling 10-acre campus within Film City, Goregaon, provided by the Maharashtra government. This development is backed by a substantial allocation of Rs 400 crore from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the government's commitment to fostering creative excellence .
