Valiant IAF Officer Abhinandan Varthaman to Get Vir Chakra Today
On the occasion of Independence Day, Abhinandan Varthaman will be bestowed the Vir Chakra which is the third-highest wartime gallantry award. The five pilots of the Mirage-2000 fighter jets will also be awarded the Vayu Sena medal for gallantry who dropping bombs on the camps of the terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) in Pakistan's Balakot. War Like Situation Tensions had risen between India and Pakistan over the Pulwama attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February. On 27 February a fight ensued between the two countries over the attack. Abhinandan who was flying a MiG-21 Bison jet shot down a Pakistani F16 which was hailed as the first-ever kill of an F16 by a MiG-21 Bison as F16 is considered to be a more modern fighter plane. Abhinandan’s jet was also shot down and he was captured by the Pakistani security forces. Exemplary Bravery and Composure After the fearless fight over the Line Of Control (LOC) and shooting down an enemy aircraft, Abhinandan showed a great deal of composure when he was in captivity for which he was praised by politicians, strategic affairs experts, celebrities and the general public. Pakistan came under pressure and released the brave warrior after three days. The fight was triggered when the IAF dropped bombs in Balakot in response to the Pulwama terrorist attack which resulted in the deaths of at least 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on 14 February.
