Padmaja's Green Revolution: Cultivating Inspiration and Sustainability
Ganimisetti Padmaja, a 31-year-old farmer from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, has become a beacon of hope for farmers seeking sustainable and healthy agricultural practices. Her relentless dedication and passion for natural farming have garnered recognition and inspired a wave of change in her community. Despite earning profits through conventional chemical-based agriculture, Padmaja recognized the detrimental effects it had on both human health and the environment. In 2016, officials from the Rythu Sadhikaraka Samstha (RySS) introduced her to the concept of natural farming, which sparked a turning point in her life. Motivated by personal experiences of losing her mother to cardiac arrest and witnessing her grandmother battle cancer, Padmaja was determined to promote healthier methods. Embarking on an arduous journey, Padmaja embraced seed-to-seed, zero-budget farming techniques. She meticulously created organic fertilizers like 'Ghanajeevamrutham' and 'Dravajeevamrutham' using kitchen waste and cow dung. With time, her efforts paid off as she successfully cultivated 21 different crops across two acres of land through Pre-Monsoon Dry Sowing practices. Padmaja's remarkable achievements did not go unnoticed. Her methods and profits inspired over 150 farmers in her village to adopt natural farming. While initially facing skepticism, especially from women, she tirelessly educated others about the importance of maintaining soil health and the benefits of natural farming. Today, Padmaja's organic products are in high demand, with customers flocking directly to her farm. Her dedication and accomplishments recently earned her the prestigious Jaivik Award in the best natural farming women category, providing national recognition for her exceptional work.
