Koch, a seasoned space explorer who joined NASA back in 2013, will be serving as the mission specialist for an epic journey aboard the Orion spacecraft. Alongside fellow astronauts Jeremy Hansen, Victor Glover, and Reid Wiseman, Koch will embark on a 10-day mission around the Moon.  Koch showcased her exceptional skills as a flight engineer on the International Space Station, working on Expeditions 59, 60, and 61. During her time in space, Koch completed six spacewalks, including the first three ever to be conducted solely by women, racking up a grand total of 42 hours and 15 minutes in the vast vacuum of space. With an impressive 328 days in space under her belt, Koch is a seasoned veteran of the final frontier. The new mission marks the first time a woman astronaut will enter the realm of the Moon, and Koch is excited about the opportunity. "It is an honor to be here," she said. The 10-day-long Artemis-II mission officially launches the countdown to humanity's next lunar landing since the legendary Apollo missions. The four astronauts on board the Orion spacecraft will cover a 2.3-million-kilometer journey around the Moon and back.The mission's primary goal is to put the Orion spacecraft's life-support systems and other crucial apparatuses to the ultimate test in deep space, ensuring they operate flawlessly with human astronauts onboard.
