Trailblazing Women: Indian Navy Officers Prepare for Historic Solo Sailing Expedition
In an exciting development, the Indian Navy is preparing two talented women officers for an extraordinary solo sailing adventure around the world. Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa Aligirisamy have been selected for this remarkable journey and are currently undergoing rigorous training, according to a Navy officer interviewed during the third G20 development working group meeting in Goa. Dilna serves as a logistic officer in the Navy, while Roopa holds the position of naval armament inspection officer. One of these exceptional officers will embark on a quest to become the first Asian woman to complete a solo circumnavigation, marking a historic milestone. Having set sail on their training expedition from Goa in November 2022, the officers are expected to return to the coastal state on May 24. Accompanied by crew members, they have already covered an impressive 21,800 nautical miles to date aboard a 17-meter vessel. If successful, the chosen officer will not only achieve an incredible personal feat but will also become the first Asian woman to undertake such a challenging solo journey. The expedition will be a test of their skills and resilience, as they will be responsible for every aspect of their voyage, from ship repairs to cooking and laundry. Anticipated to last over 200 days, this sailing endeavor promises to push the boundaries of their capabilities. As the world eagerly awaits the outcome of this daring venture, the Indian Navy continues to inspire and empower women by showcasing their remarkable talents in the field of maritime exploration.
