Asia’s Longest Bi Directional Tunnel To Come Up In India
The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave the go-ahead to the construction of the Zojila Pass tunnel which will be Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel. The 14.2-km long tunnel project in Jammu and Kashmir will provide all-weather connectivity between Srinagar, Kargil and Leh, which remains cut-off from the rest of India during winters due to heavy snowfall. The tunnel will reduce the travel time between Srinagar and Leh to just 15 minutes, which currently takes 3.5 hours. The tunnel is slated to come up in 7 years due to tough geographical conditions and once completed, it will be no less than an engineering marvel.
