Conference on World Environment

A two-day world conference on the environment will be held in the national capital from November 3. It will be hosted by The National Green Tribunal (NGT) and will be attended by the representatives of the United Nations Environment Programme, the Asian Development Bank, the Ministry of Environment and Forests and the Ministry of Water Resources. Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar heads the National Green Tribunal. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the function which will be held at Mavalankar Auditorium and Manekshaw Centre. It will be presided by the Chief  Justice of India Dipak Misra and attended by various high court judges and, environmentalists and legal experts among others. According to a release, the conference will comprise of four technical sessions where different topics pertaining to climate change, municipal solid waste, clean and renewable energy, forests will be discussed with focus evolving principles and strategies for environmental conservation and protection both at national and global levels. The NGT was established on October 8, 2010, under the National Green Tribunal Act 2010 passed by the central government.Its object was to provide a specialized forum for effective and speedy disposal of cases pertaining to environmental protection, conservation of forests and for seeking compensation for damages caused to people or property due to violation of environmental laws.
