Halima Aden: First Hijab wearing model on Vogue’s cover
Shattering stereotypes, Halima Aden becomes the first Hijab wearing model for Vogue’s cover. She is the front of Vogue Arabia’s June issue. Halima Aden is 19 year old Somali-American who rose to fame by wearing a hijab in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant. Though she didn’t win the contest, her attitude was highly acclaimed. Soon after the contest, she was signed to IMG models. She also judged the Miss USA pageant and walked the ramp at the New York Fashion Week for Yeezy Season 5. She was also the face of the international campaign for Ramadan-exclusive line for The Modist. It is a fashion e-retailer based in Dubai and London. She had a rough childhood and still drinks Pediasure which she consumed as a child because of being underweight. She has braces which is not common among models and claims it to be part of what she is. She sports an excellent example of reflecting one’s identity with pride. Halima Aden has truly changed the perception of many Muslim women and redefined beauty! She aims to change people’s perspective of looking upon women and break all the stereotypes that describe beauty as per societal views.
