Safety lessons for children at Traffic Park
A traffic awareness programme was held for more than 150 students of Ashram Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Kovaipudur at the Children's Traffic Park in Coimbatore on Tuesday. It was conducted by the city traffic police in alliance with an automobile company. The programme comprised of a theory class that enlightened the students about traffic rules and regulations. They were also advised about the precautions that they should take while travelling in school buses like not to wave their hands or peep out of bus windows. Instructions were also given to school bus drivers for the safety of school children. They were directed to keep a first aid box and fire extinguisher on the bus. For the purpose of better and efficient training, a model school bus was set up at the traffic park. Children were also asked to memorise the name of the bus driver. The traffic police are planning to extend the programme for two more days for the benefit of school children. Preetham Dey, a representative of the automobile company, said that the theory and practical sessions will make the students understand traffic rules and regulations. He added that the programme will continue for two more days and interested school managements can approach the city traffic police for conducting a session for their students. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) M Durai stated that there are plans to set up a model school bus in the park, keeping safety aspects in mind.
