Animals in Delhi Zoo also set to beat the heat
With scorching heat taking a toll on people, animals are also suffering from the sudden increase in temperature and Delhi Zoo has thoughtfully planned a soothing summer for their inmates. The Delhi Zoo has installed sprinklers, desert coolers and fans for the inmates. Also, the zoo will provide sugar-free kheer. The officials of the zoo confirmed that ponds inside the zoo are filled with water while pressure pumps are used to bathe big animals like elephants, tigers and lions. This is a summer plan by the zoo for their inmates so that even they are rescued a bit from the scorching heat. As per the report in Hindustan Times the officials informed that the meat intake of carnivorous animals like tigers, panthers, jaguars and lions is reduced by 1-2 kg during summers. “Altering the food plan is also part of the summer action. For instance, seasonal fruits are given to prevent the inmates from infection. Climber plants are included in the diet of bears and monkeys. This time we will also provide sugar-free kheer (sweet dish),” the officials informed. The animals are also given vitamin supplements or electrol powder to beat dehydration, while nets are used on the roofs of the enclosures to prevent animals from harmful UV rays. Also, rhinoceros spend most of their time in the swimming pool to beat the heat. With all these precautions and newly introduced activities for animals, inmates in Delhi Zoo are also all set to fight the summers.
