Deep Brain Stimulation Gives Hope To Parkinson's Patients

Irfan Khan now hopes to lead a normal life after he regained his voice after two years. The sixty-year-old had lost his voice to Parkinson's disease which had affected him for a decade. Following a deep brain stimulation recently, Khan got his voice back raising hopes for Parkinsons patients who develop speech difficulty and gait disorders. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is now the standard of care for patients with motor fluctuations. It involves implantation of a neurostimulator, which sends electrical impulses to brain nuclei for the treatment of movement.
