Leading The Way: Metro Journey for Women Made More Comfortable
The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) is always in news for the positive initiative taken by them. A year ago they gave jobs to people from the transgender community and now have set up another example by making metro stations more women-friendly. It has taken a step forward by installing lactating pods at four metro stations to facilitate the breast feeding mothers. Normally the mothers are in uncomfortable position to feed their babies in public, but have no option and somehow manage the situation with help of their families and friends. However, The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) has given a helping hand to these feeding mothers by installing these breastfeeding pods. A special room of 4ft by 4ft is set up with few basic facilities to comfort the mother with their babies. There is a comfortable seating arrangement accompained with light, fan, charging point and hand sanitiser. I love 9 months, a wellness start-up has designed these pods. KMRL managing director APM Mohammed Hanish while inaugurating at Aluva told TOI, “The attempt is to give mothers a private breastfeeding space in our Metro stations. KMRL is a women-friendly organization with close to 700 women employees. We are happy to introduce more facilities for women. We may extend the plan to more stations in future.” Hence by providing a safe place for mothers to feed their babies, travelling is made easy and comfortable.
