Jaipur gets its first lady patrol unit
The Jaipur police commissionerate on Monday witnessed an unusual sight of over 50 women constables, seated on swanky two-wheelers who were getting ready to ride into the Pink City. They are the first lady patrol unit of Jaipur who will patrol the streets to stop incidents of eve teasing, stalking and sexual harassment. Neelam Choudhary, a 25-year-old constable is determined not to let those who harass women get away. She said that for the last few months she has been trained to deal with such situations. Another constable Sohan Kanwar said that she learnt to ride a two wheeler during the training. The constables were also been given lessons in martial arts, yoga, horse riding and other modes of combat. Each two-wheeler will have two cops. The vehicles, which have been donated by Hero Motocorps Ltd, are well equipped and has facilities such as inbuilt mobile chargers, first aid boxes, batons, wireless systems and flashlights. Jaipur commissioner of police Sanjay Agarwal said that the primary focus of the unit is to address the grievances of women in the city and these trained women will be deployed in such places with varying magnitude of importance. Women will feel free to approach women constables to address their problems. Earlier, Udaipur had become the first city in Rajasthan to launch an all women patrolling unit in October last year.
