The Third Edition of Khelo India Games Ushers in a Sporting Extravaganza
The eagerly awaited third edition of the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) has taken off in Uttar Pradesh. With the participation of more than 4,000 athletes and officials from 207 universities across the nation, competing in 21 different disciplines, this 12-day event promises to be a thrilling spectacle. While the majority of competitions are scheduled to take place in various cities of Uttar Pradesh, the shooting events will be held in the capital city of New Delhi. Athletes, officials, and spectators from all over the country came together to attend the opening ceremony and celebrate the spirit of sporting excellence. The SVSP Sports Complex Indoor Hall in Gautam Buddha Nagar witnessed the commencement of KIUG with exciting kabaddi matches. Adding a new dimension of excitement, this edition of KIUG introduces water sports. The serene Taal Lake in Ramgarh, Gorakhpur, will be the venue for a captivating rowing contest. By diversifying and expanding the range of sporting disciplines, KIUG aims to provide athletes with unique opportunities to showcase their talents and passion. Sanjay Saraswat, the executive director of the Sports Authority of India's Lucknow center, highlights the significance of KIUG in increasing visibility for athletes at the national level. By prioritizing fair play, KIUG aims to address past incidents of manipulation in school and university games. Saraswat emphasizes the importance of establishing robust policies to enable university athletes to showcase their abilities and potential.
