India emerges as Nepal’s top development partner surpassing China
India has emerged among the top five Official Development Assistance (ODA) donors to the Nepal, to its historical and cultural neighbor. Thus it has surpassed China in this regard. According to the Economic Times report, the latest Development Cooperation Report on FY 2015-2016 of Nepal finance ministry places India at the 5th position after the US, the UK, Japan and Switzerland in the top ODA disbursers list. To attain this position, India has extended US $ 35.76 million during July 2015 to July 2016 and became one of top 5 development partners of Nepal. Nepal reported that India is also among forerunner partners which provide help through training, scholarships, as well as study tour conducted in their countries. As per Indian MEA, the funds extended to assist Nepal each year are to the tune of Rs 300 to 400 crore. China is frontrunner in extending FDI for Nepal for up to 68 per cent of all other countries, during the first half of current fiscal year 2016-2017. India's has emerged among the Nepal's top development partners, even as Nepal has given it’s consent to be a part of China's OBOR project.
