Website to warn citizens against cyber crimes

Cyber crimes are on the rise and there is no doubt that these crimes affect a person psychologically. To make people aware of the dangers of cyber crime, the Delhi Police on Wednesday launched a website of its cyber cell. The website will warn citizens about the various fraudulent activities that exist in the virtual world and how not to fall prey to them. In the case of being trapped in a cyber crime, it will help them to file complaints related to such crimes. The website was launched by the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik who stressed the need for all stakeholders including the police, media and schools to join hands to combat this growing menace. Joint Commissioner of Police (Economic Offences Wing) Arun Kampani said that the website will help people to guard against at least “13-14 kinds” of cyber crimes. Through this site, people affected by cyber crimes will come to know of the documents required to be submitted while filing a complaint. Efforts are on to train the investigators to detect such crimes and they will be taught how to go about the probe. Kampani further said that Delhi Police received around 750 cyber crime complaints annually and over 800 Delhi Police personnel have already been trained to handle cyber crimes. At the conclusion of the launch, a seminar was conducted for computer teachers where they were informed about the threats posed to kids online and how they could help them.
