Meet Amar Bhaskar – Cancer Survivor With a Passion for Photography and Social Work
Amar Bhaskar fought cancer twice and is a ray of hope for patients suffering from the dreaded disease. It was not easy for Amar, an enthusiastic young man with high levels of energy, to accept the fact that he was suffering from cancer. Diagnosis And Treatment Amar, a senior executive with a global tech giant was diagnosed with malignant tongue carcinoma. It was a great setback for him, but he decided to move on with conviction. He continued to work, sometimes from home and at the same time pursuing his passion for photography, cricket, carpentry and yoga. With his positive attitude towards life, he soon bounced back to normal, only to be devastated three years later when cancer struck again. This time doctors had to remove a part of his tongue that was affected. He was determined to face the consequences of surgery that included speech impairment. However, Amar worked hard to regain his normal speech. He even started using substitute words to make up for the words that he couldn’t pronounce. Social Causes What is commendable about Amar is that even after fighting cancer, he has tremendous energy to work for social causes. He along with his friends started Vismaya, a group that raises money for various causes by exhibiting and selling their photographs. At one exhibition, the team raised 5 lakh for children with special needs. He is in charge of the Pink Hope Cancer Patient Support Group which helps to launch awareness programmes for cancer patients and help them connect with other survivors so that they become confident and positive about fighting cancer. For Amar, the battle with cancer has been a life-changing experience and he believes that more than the medicine, the mind plays a greater role in recovery. In addition to the power of prayer, his hobbies like photography helped him get through one of the most trying times in his life.
