Why This Island Will Leave You Amused and Confused!

It is a matter of great wonder that around a hundred pairs of twins reside in the small town of Alabat in the Philippines. The island's oldest twins are Eudosia and Antonia, who will turn 90 next year. One in three households has twins in the family. In 2018, it was reported that this island has 78 pairs of nonidentical twins, 22 pairs of identical twins, and even a pair of conjoined twins which is rare! To add to the confusion, twins usually dress alike and even sport identical hairstyles such that nobody can tell them apart.  One may wonder how this is possible. Well, this phenomenon has baffled scientists who have no clue. However, there are a lot of speculations going around. Some say it's because of their genes while others state that it is because of the water. It still feels too strange to be true that over 16,000 people are living in this tiny fishing community now. This community is not the only one of its kind, though. There have been reports of twin birth rates that are atypically high in various localities. For instance, Kodinhi, a little town in Kerala, southern India, reported having 400 or more identical twins living there.
