Ramkrishna Ahirwar, a young boy of 14 would worry about his father when he would trudge to the fields from their home with an umbrella in one hand and a torch in the other during the rains. His worry gave way to ideas and he decided to make an umbrella that would serve many purposes and ease out the situation for his hard working father.
Ramkrishna who hails from Kharmedi village in Madhya Pradesh decided to make the best use of natural resources such as sunshine. He created an all purpose solar umbrella with features like LED lights that are charged by solar panels.
The umbrella also has a music player and a mobile charging unit. As the area through which his father travelled daily was inhabited by wild animals, Ramkrishna equipped the umbrella with an inbuilt siren, which when activated could scare wild animals away.
Provision has been made for this extra ordinary umbrella to be charged electrically in case the sky is overcast by clouds.
This definitely sounds like a high tech umbrella, but the raw materials used to make it will surprise us. Ramkrishna resorted to simple daily household items like bulbs from basic torch lights. The charging point of a mosquito killing racket was used to fix the charging unit for the umbrella. Solar panels were also taken out from torches.
One good turn deserves another. Ramkrishna wanted to make his father's life easy. It was his love for his father that made him come up with solutions for which he laboured tirelessly. His labour of love didn't go waste. Apart from brightening up his father's life, the multipurpose umbrella has won innumerable awards at district and state levels including an award in an exhibition at the national level.
The icing on the cake is that Ramkrishna will be heading to Japan in May as he has been selected for Sakura (Japan) Exchange programme, which falls under INSPIRE award of Ministry of Science and Technology.
Never in his dreams had Ramkrishna imagined that he would travel to Japan. May his young and sharp mind be able to grasp all information that he may use not only for the advantage of his family, but also for the benefit of the nation.
