In a surprising revelation, two villages in Uttarakhand have successfully maintained an alcohol and drug-free environment without any official prohibition. The villages of Kota Dimau, Gadol, and Bohri, located in Tehsil Kalsi area, have managed to uphold this practice by adhering to a mythological tradition and religious belief.
The residents of these villages, with a population of approximately three thousand, strictly abstain from consuming alcohol or using drugs. The villages' religious faith is centered around Lord Parshuram Maharaj, and the villagers believe that violating the rules against alcohol will result in severe consequences from the Almighty in the future.
Key figures of the community, including Shamsher Singh Tomar, former head of Kalsi, and Jawahar Singh Chauhan, president of Parshuram Maharaj Temple Kota Dimau Committee, have emphasized the importance of this religious belief in maintaining their village's sanctity.
When a marriage procession enters Kota Dimau, the village elders issue a warning against bringing liquor within the village boundaries. Interestingly, liquor shops are not allowed to operate in the village, and the government has not taken any steps to initiate the sale of alcohol. Although there have been reports of illicit liquor production in surrounding villages, the government has assured concrete action if any such incidents are identified.
The villagers' commitment to prohibition has even diluted the need for strict government laws in the area. The belief that intoxication is completely prohibited where Lord Parshuram resides has become a guiding principle for both locals and visitors seeking freedom from addiction.
The example set by these villages showcases the power of religious beliefs and communal determination in creating a drug-free environment, even in the absence of formal prohibition measures.
