The world Quality Congress (WQC) usually awards private sector companies for providing outstanding quality service, but this is the first time that a central paramilitary force- the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been chosen for this prestigious award.
For its excellent standards and professionalism in providing security at Delhi airport, the CISF has been awarded the ‘best airport security’ award by the WQC.
Around 56 million passengers use Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport every year and providing security to all people in the wake of regular bombing and hijacking threats from Islamic terror outfits like al-Qaida, Islamic State, Lashkar-e-Taiba etc, apart from fears of smuggling of drugs and banned items is a challenging task for the CISF.
It has only been three months since Airport Council International’s airport service quality (ASQ) rating found that security at Delhi airport was better than Heathrow, Dallas, Los Angeles, Dubai and Paris airport.
CISF director general O P Singh said that CISF has regularly excelled and evolved to provide the best security and it is a proud moment for them to be chosen for this award.
Around 4,000 trained CISF personnel are in charge of the security of the domestic and international terminals of Delhi airport around the clock.
59 airports are secured by the central force which keeps introducing new modules to update its personnel and commandos of changing modus operandi of terrorists who target such installations.
The award will be given to the CISF at WQC's annual event in Mumbai on July 6.
