Spread in the area of 10 sq. kms., the facility station in Kamuthi of Tamul Nadu is enabled to produce 648 MW power making it the largest Solar farm in the world. Earlier, this record was in the name of Topaz Solar Farm located in California, which can produce 550 MW of energy.
This solar plant has been built in merely eight months and is funded by the Adani Group. The plant has 2.5 million solar modules and has cost around $679 Million to build.
It is estimated that once start running to it’s full capacity, the solar plant would be able to produce sufficient energy to power around 150,000 houses. With the addition of this new plant, India’s total capacity has crossed the mark of 10 GW, as per the statement by a research firm, ‘Bridge To India’.
With increased solar power capacity, India is anticipated to become the world's third-biggest solar market, after China and the US. By the year 2022, the nation has goal to provide electricity to 60 million homes with solar energy.
