Two wheels, eyes full of determination and a dream to witness the untraveled roads made Meghalaya’s Winward Sangma achieve something which he had dreamt of. The 20-year-old cyclist rode on his BMX to the iconic Himalayas and created a history.
Winward along with a troupe commenced the journey on June 21 and it ended at Lake Tilicho which is located at an altitude of 4,919 meters in the range of the Himalayas. And before reaching this particular point, they pedalled through Myanmar, Bhutan from Meghalaya as reported by North East Today.
The journey of riding through the Himalayas was taken up during the monsoons owing to which Winward and the troupe faced quite a lot of difficulties but, despite all the obstacles they made it through.
North East Today also reported that a bridge which was crossed by the troupe on time collapsed after an hour of the crossing. From oxygen problem due to high altitude to other difficulties, everything came in their way. The journey was not that easy.
The ride was an initiative to generate awareness about climate change and environmental degradation.
Winward’s breathtaking journey has made us realize that all of us must come forward and do our part for the environment in our own ways. People will only know of the degrading condition if they are aware.
