Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan was travelling through Ernakulam on Sunday when he noticed a young man lying injured on the Container Road. Satheesan immediately asked his convoy to stop and stepped out to check what had happened. 

With the injured man needing immediate medical attention, Satheesan instructed the police and security personnel accompanying him to get him to a hospital without delay. The injured man was carried into the Chief Minister’s pilot vehicle, which was then used to take him to Aster Medcity Hospital. Satheesan stayed at the scene long enough to ask people nearby about how the accident had occurred. 

A video from the incident shows the Chief Minister speaking to those around the injured man and directing his security personnel to move him to the vehicle. He was also heard telling them to take the young man to the hospital. He assured them that he would continue his journey on his own.

Police and hospital sources later said the man had sustained multiple injuries but was not in critical condition and was kept under observation.

A Moment That Drew Attention

Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media, with the focus largely on the decision to use the pilot vehicle to get the injured man medical attention quickly. The incident also prompted discussion about how road accident victims should be moved safely. 

After ensuring that the injured man had been taken to hospital, Satheesan continued with his scheduled engagements. Later, he inaugurated the 89th Gothuruthu Boat Race, organised by the Gothuruthu Sports and Arts Club as part of the Feast of the Holy Cross celebrations at Kadalvathuruth. 

For those who witnessed the afternoon unfold, however, the image of a Chief Minister pausing his journey to respond to an accident became a heartwarming moment on a busy road.
