On this Teachers' Day, President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Teachers Award 2024 to a teacher with special needs who works in a remote Chattisgarh community. K Sharda is presently employed in the Khedamara village's Government Pre-Secondary School. She is one of the 50 educators nationwide who have been selected to receive the esteemed prize.
K Sharda, 35, is presently employed in a government pre-secondary school in the isolated Khedamara village nearby. She is one of just two specially-abled teachers out of the 50 to receive the National Teachers Award 2024. Sharda, a math teacher, contracted polio as a young child. Despite her physical condition, she never let it stop her from fulfilling her lifetime dream of becoming a teacher and serving her state's underprivileged pupils. Sharda was one of the fifty-two State Teacher Award recipients from the previous year.
Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, her effective use of technology and audio-visual aids in the classroom astonished her peers and benefited her students. Sharda created her website and made sure her students did not fall behind by uploading videos of her daily classes and making sure to stay in touch during the national lockdown. According to Sharda, the movies she has posted to the portal now include a variety of tools, such as cartoon characters and artificial intelligence, which she has added to enhance their features. Sharda has a vast library of more than 2,000 audiobooks, e-content, and other materials that she utilizes to support her more inventive teaching methods even as she continues to work with students in the school.

In addition, Sharda is the author of fifty stories about moral education that have been released in Hindi, English, and Chhattisgarhi Halbi. Sharda's family has always supported her, cheering her on at every turn. Savitri, her mother, expressed her happiness at her daughter's receiving acknowledgment for her hard work. She remarked, "We never treated her differently and wanted to give her the greatest education possible to help her realize her ambition. K Rajarao, Sharda's brother, claimed to have carried his sister to school on his shoulders in the past. We made an effort to support her in every manner we could. He stated that receiving such national acclaim is the highest proof of her dedication.
To determine the final names of the recipients, the Department of School Education uses a three-stage selection process at the national, state, and district levels. The National Teacher Awards were established in 1958, and the regulations were updated in 2018.
