Daljeet Sahi Kaur’s NGO has become a sanctuary of hope for countless distressed dogs.
In 2019, Daljeet Kaur Sahi embarked on a remarkable journey, fueled by her deep-seated compassion for animals. Despite facing doubts from her family, Daljeet took a bold step by investing her life savings into her NGO, 'Voice for Voiceless.' Her mission was clear: to provide essential care and affection to the vulnerable dogs of Karnal.
Daljeet’s NGO has become a sanctuary of hope for countless distressed dogs. It offers them not only food and healthcare but also the warmth of shelter and the love they desperately need. Her empathy extends beyond dogs to all creatures on the streets, driven by a desire to bring hope into their lives.
When the Covid pandemic swept across the nation, bringing with it unprecedented challenges, Daljeet’s commitment only grew stronger. With the enforcement of lockdowns to curb the spread of the virus, many stray dogs found themselves in dire straits, struggling to find food.
During this trying period, Daljeet and her brother, Gurlal Singh Sahi, became their caregivers. Hailing from Jyoti Nagar in Karnal, this sibling duo made it their daily mission to feed around 250-300 stray dogs throughout the city. Armed with 7-8 liters of milk, biscuits, chapattis, and other food items, they set out each day at 3 pm, returning home only after 8 pm.
Daljeet and her brother faced numerous hurdles during the lockdown. Initial challenges included sourcing food due to restrictions and police enforcements. Despite these setbacks, their determination led them to collaborate with local grocery shops, and they received invaluable support from the police.
Daljeet expressed their determination to ensure that no stray dog went hungry. Despite facing challenges, she mentioned that the support from the community and their persistence kept them going. Gurlal shared her sentiments, highlighting the joy they found in their daily routine. He added that both of them enjoyed the work immensely, and their mother also contributed by preparing food for the animals, making it a true family effort.
Daljeet's journey into helping animals started with a stray dog named JoJo, who captured her heart. Taking care of JoJo sparked her love for animal welfare and inspired her to speak up for animal rights. During the Covid pandemic, Daljeet's commitment grew as she cared for thousands of dogs, strengthening her belief that, while dogs can't speak, their hearts are full of feelings.
“JoJo’s presence in my life was a turning point, it made me realize that every dog, no matter how voiceless, deserves love and care.”
Daljeet and Gurlal’s story goes beyond simply feeding stray dogs—it’s a powerful example of how compassion and individual actions can make a difference. Their work has motivated many in their community to get involved, showing that even in challenging times, kindness can bring hope and light.
