Serving as an epitome of humanity, people in Tamil Nadu show enormous love towards their co-habitants – Birds. The Vellode bird Sanctuary was established in 1996 and people in the surrounding villages take utmost care to preserve the migratory birds. Aware of the fact that the noises of crackers scare these birds and drive those away, the villages counting around 750 families that surround the bird sanctuary have boycotted crackers 17 years back. Following the same, even this year’s Diwali was celebrated in a grand way but noise-free. Many birds migrate here from different countries during this season and leave after two-three months. The villagers here feel it’s their responsibility to care for them.
