Vijayawada, a city known for its vibrant spirit and the flowing Krishna River, is preparing to host the 8th edition of its Half Marathon. Founded by Mani Deepak Tadavarthy, a visionary 32-year-old MBA graduate from HB Colony in Bhavanipuram, this annual event has become a celebration that unites running enthusiasts from all corners of the country. The marathon not only challenges participants physically but also aims to raise awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

Inspired by a group of runners he encountered while working in Hyderabad, Mani Deepak decided to bring a marathon to his hometown. The first edition took place in 2016, and since then, the event has grown exponentially, overcoming challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2020 and 2021, the Vijayawada Marathon even went virtual, attracting over 1,600 participants from around the world and showcasing the unwavering spirit of the running community.

On November 19, the upcoming marathon organized by the Vijayawada Runners Society will offer a range of events catering to participants of different levels. From the 5-km Fun Run for beginners and families to the challenging 21.09 km Half Marathon, supported by Shriram Finance, there will be something for everyone.

The marathon not only promotes fitness and health but also creates opportunities for the city's commercial and tourism sectors. Participants and their families are expected to contribute to the local economy through shopping, dining, and lodging.

Authorities, including the district Collector, Vijayawada Municipal Commissioner, and the police, are actively involved in ensuring the safety and sanitation of the running route. The marathon will feature scientific monitoring, aid stations, distance markings, medical support, and traffic control to enhance the overall experience for participants.
