The 76th Republic Day celebrations witnessed a grand display of India’s cultural and historical richness through the vibrant tableaux and disciplined marching contingents. Among them, Uttar Pradesh’s tableau, depicting the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, secured the top position, winning accolades for its artistic brilliance and deep-rooted cultural significance. The tableau beautifully captured the spiritual grandeur of Mahakumbh, an event that draws millions of devotees and ascetics from across the country.
The Ministry of Defence announced the winners for the best tableaux and marching contingents on Wednesday, following a thorough assessment by three expert panels. These panels evaluated the performances of contingents from the services, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and other auxiliary units, along with the tableaux presented by various states, union territories, and central government departments.
Among the marching contingents, the Jammu & Kashmir Rifles emerged as the best among the services, while the Delhi Police Marching Contingent won in the CAPF/auxiliary forces category. These selections reflected the highest standards of discipline, coordination, and patriotic fervor.
Following Uttar Pradesh’s winning tableau, Tripura secured the second spot with its theme, “Eternal Reverence: The Worship of 14 Deities in Tripura - Kharchi Puja.” The third place went to Andhra Pradesh’s display on “Etikoppaka Bommalu - Eco-Friendly Wooden Toys,” emphasizing the state's traditional craftsmanship.
Among central ministries and departments, the Ministry of Tribal Affairs won the top award for its tableau “Janjatiya Gaurav Varsh,” celebrating the rich heritage of India’s tribal communities. Additionally, special awards were given to the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for its tableau on “75 Years of the Constitution of India” and the Jayati Jai Mamah Bharatam Dance Group for their enthralling performance.
To engage the public in the selection process, an online poll was conducted on the MyGov portal from January 26 to 28. This allowed citizens to vote for their favorite marching contingents and tableaux in the ‘Popular Choice’ category.
In this category, Gujarat’s tableau “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat Aur Vikas” won first place, while Uttar Pradesh’s Mahakumbh 2025 tableau secured the second position, reaffirming its widespread appeal. Uttarakhand’s tableau on “Cultural Heritage and Adventure Sports” took the third spot.
For the marching contingents, the Signals Contingent was chosen as the best among the services, while the CRPF Marching Contingent won in the CAPF/auxiliary forces category. Among central ministries, the Ministry of Women & Child Development received the top honor for showcasing “The Multifaceted Journey of Women and Children Nurtured Under the Ministry’s Comprehensive Schemes.”
Uttar Pradesh’s remarkable win at the Republic Day Parade reflects the state’s dedication to preserving and promoting its cultural identity. The Mahakumbh 2025 tableau showcased the grandeur of one of the world’s largest religious gatherings. It also highlighted the deep spiritual traditions that define India’s heritage.
As the countdown to Mahakumbh 2025 continues, this win serves as a proud moment for the state and its people, inspiring a greater appreciation for India’s rich traditions on the national stage.
