The Kempegowda International Airport's Terminal 2 (KIA T2) in Bengaluru has been awarded the 'World Special Prize for an Interior 2023' by UNESCO's Prix Versailles. According to Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), this award ranks KIA T2 as the only Indian airport to receive such international praise.
T2 stands on the foundation of four key elements: technical leadership, a terminal integrated within a garden setting, commitment to environmental sustainability, and a celebration of Karnataka's vibrant tradition and culture. An official announcement highlights that T2's sustainable design earned the prestigious recognition of being the world's largest terminal pre-certified with a Platinum LEED certification by the US Green Building Council, even before its operational launch. This distinction underscores the airport's unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and responsibility.
The Prix Versailles 2023 world judges panel, chaired by famous fashion designer Elie Saab, announced Bengaluru airport as the lone Indian recipient of this prestigious award, underscoring the airport's commitment to excellent global design and architecture. This distinction pushes Bengaluru Airport to the top tier of airports worldwide. Hari Marar, MD and CEO of Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), expressed joy at the achievement, saying, "The nomination of Terminal 2 for the 2023 Prix Versailles Award is a moment of immense pride. We are thrilled to see T2 receive well-deserved praise for its unique blend of art and technology that serves as a distinguishing gateway. It leaves a lasting effect on worldwide travelers, providing a peek of our state's and country's vast assets."
