To celebrate the 550th birth anniversary year of Guru Nanak Dev, gurudwaras in Delhi are offering saplings to visitors as Prasad.
The Delhi Gurudwara Management Committee came up with this initiative to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s love for nature. It also organized a tree plantation drive to plant more than 1 lakh trees across all gurudwaras and Sikh educational institutes in Delhi.
Novel Idea
Well, we have heard of saplings being distributed as return gifts in weddings. However, saplings distributed as Prasad to devotees is unheard of. This initiative of the Gurudwara Committee is commendable as it helps to spread awareness about the need to plant more trees to conserve our environment.
Educational Institutions
The Gurudwara management committee has also made it mandatory for all freshers of nine colleges affiliated to Delhi University managed by them to plant ten trees form the current academic session. The students will also be given marks for this tree plantation project which will be included in their annual result.
The move is intended to instill a sense of responsibility towards the planet among the Sikh community.
