Sripuram Vishwanatham, a kirana store owner had saved more than Rs 50 lakhs with a lifetime of hard work. In an act of profound gratitude, he gave a sum of Rs 50 lakhs to the armed forces.
On Monday, 78-year-old Sripuram Vishwanatham from Huzurnagar, Hyderabad presented a cheque of Rs 50 lakhs to Governor Tamilisai Soudararajan for the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund.
Gesture Of Goodwill
Vishwanatham managed the kirana shop till April this year. He then shut shop and got himself accommodation in an old age home. He doesn’t have a wife and children and was wary of leaving his money with his relatives. His friend had joined the Army some time back and since then he always held the armed forces in high regard. Therefore, he donated the money as a gesture of goodwill to the armed forces.
Love For Country
When Vishwanatham expressed his desire to donate money. Zilla Sainik welfare officer Sreenesh Nori himself drove the kind-hearted man from his old age home in Mattapalli to Hyderabad. The Governor wanted to know whether he had kept any money for himself to which he replied that he had Rs 10 lakhs in his account. He said that if it hadn’t been for our soldiers standing at our borders and protecting our country, Pakistan and China would have overpowered us long ago.
One cannot stop admiring this gentleman’s selfless love for his country.
