Did you know that Chandigarh hosts the Chrysanthemum Flower festival every year in December? It is held at the Terraced garden in Sector 33 which becomes a palette of vibrant hues during the festival.

From the crown of Shivaliks to dew drop covered blades of grass, winters in Chandigarh is extremely beautiful. Add to it, the Chrysanthemum Flower Show which is a major attraction and crowd puller.

This year MP Ms. Kirron Kher inaugurated the event in which 266 flower varieties in about 10,000 flower pots were put on display. This is one of a kind show held in the north where around a thousand people take part. People are encouraged by the event to display their own creation of flowers.

The event arouses great excitement among flower lovers who flock to the venue. One cannot take their eyes off the varied forms of beautiful and exotic flowers that are a splendid creation of nature. Visitors can view and cherish the sight of unique and rare species of flowers.

Chrysanthemum flower is from Chrysanthemum genus which consists of approximately 30 species in the family Asteraceae which is native to Asia and northeastern Europe. The event hosts an exclusive variety of Chrysanthemums flower along with other major flower breeds. Various competitions related to gardening are conducted in which many city gardeners participate. Chrysanthemums Show has been drawing more and more crowds each year and the festival is increasingly gaining momentum.

The festival has become so popular that it is often called the ‘Chandigarh Flower Festival’. There is something for everyone as all are left captivated by the beauty of the flowers. Youngsters getting clicked amidst the colourful display is a common sight at the festival.

Some other attractions of this colourful flower festival apart from spectacular flower display attractions include animal figures made with flowers, statues made by artists, flower rangoli, photography exhibition, snacks and food stalls among many others.
