How can God’s Own Country be missed out! Kerala is the only tourist destination to be featured in the list of ‘52 places to visit in 2023’ by the New York Times. Kerala, a state in southern India famous for its beaches, backwater lagoons, food, and extensive cultural traditions, is ranked 13th on the newspaper's yearly list of places to visit.
A report by the New York Times commends the responsible tourism initiatives implemented at several destinations in the State, including Kumarakom and Maravanthuruthu. According to the report, Kerala is a place where visitors may learn how to climb palm trees, attend a temple festival, and experience sustainable village life.
Taking to Twitter, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan credited the impressive accomplishment to their community tourism, enabling visitors to enjoy Kerala's vibrant culture and magnificent scenery. “Yet another exciting achievement for @KeralaTourism," he tweeted.
In a statement to the media, Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas stated that the government considers sustainable tourism development meaningful if only it leads to the development of local communities. “The global honor will give a fillip to the arrival of foreign tourists to the State," Riyas added.
London tops the list followed by Morioka in Japan, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in the USA, Kilmartin Glen in Scotland, and Auckland in New Zealand.
