It was a proud moment for India when the world’s greatest statue – The Statue of Unity was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in October last year. Now, we have another reason to rejoice as Statue of Unity is included in Time magazine’s list of greatest places in the world 2019.
The Statue of Unity is built in honour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the iron man of India and first Deputy Prime Minister of India. The towering 182 m tall statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018 along with the Wall of Unity which is a monument defining India’s unity built near the towering structure. Ever since it has been open to the public, people from all over the world have thronged this place and it has become a major attraction.
The gigantic Statue of Unity is built on a river island named Sadhu Bet that faces the Sardar Sarovar dam in Narmada district in Gujarat. It is 100 km southeast of the city of Vadodara and 150 km from Surat. It is twice the height of the Statue of Liberty in the United States and has left behind China’s Spring Temple Buddha at 153 meters.
The Statue of Unity attracts massive crowds who come to admire this colossal statue which is the tallest in the world.
